New Field Service Software Feature: Program Fee Option

Here’s how to avoid the cost of credit card fees with our new field service software feature.

For field service companies, online payments have become the status quo. The convenience for both the customer and the business is immediately apparent: it’s convenient, “touchless,” and immediate. When was the last time you accepted a check for your services? Even cash has become a lot less popular for payments.

There’s only one downside for you as the business owner: the credit card fees. Your merchant account with the credit card companies will invariably charge you that dreaded 3% service fee. This is the most common use case for our new field service software feature, but there are other examples of when this feature can be helpful.

Why Add Program Fees to Your Existing Charges?

As we mentioned above, credit card fees can be a pain. They cut into your bottom line, forcing you to raise your prices to account for them. With our program fees feature, you have the option of advertising and quoting a lower price, passing the processing fees along to the customer at the time of payment.

The feature can be used for fuel surcharges, equipment rental, premiums on rush services, and more, in addition to offsetting credit card fees.

How Our New Field Service Software Feature Works

The program fee is in addition to the existing invoice amount for services. It is listed separately on the invoice and can be either a percentage of the service fee (as in the example of the 3% credit card processing fee) or a fixed dollar amount (e.g. an equipment rental charge).

As the administrator of your Vonigo instance, either as an independent owner or a franchisor, you can set specific conditions for when the program fee is used. For example, if you only wish to charge the program fee when a specific type of credit card is used. Another example would be if an invoice is below a specific amount, you could automatically add the program fee.
